DIETER SCHLATTER was born and raised in Switzerland. A classically trained chef, he worked in the hospitality industry for 24 years in several countries and aboard German cruise ships. His artistic development began at an early age with serious interests in photography and literature, and his novel "Unter der Wasserlinie" was published in 1987. He started painting and sculpting in 1990 and left his chef's career in 1998 to concentrate on his art full time. Dieter Schlatter has lived in Vancouver, British Columbia since 1989.

"I am interested in: history; how technology is interwoven with nature; the impact we have on the environment; the resulting political, ecological and economical conflicts; and the traces and scars we leave behind and the energy being reflected by these scars."
