While spending time at the lake with our family, I observed my 10-year-old niece Hayley trying on her dad’s cowboy hat. The moment I saw her wearing it I knew I would be using her as a subject. I asked if I could take a few pictures of her. Of her many ‘poses’, this one was the most natural and unintended. She just happened to glance down at her side. This was the image that I chose – young innocence at its best.
