This powerful show explores landscape not just as subject matter, but as a source of memory, emotion, and identity.
David Langevin brings a bold, portrait-like focus to his subjects—trees, animals, and landscapes rendered with striking clarity and individuality. For Langevin, each element of the natural world has its own presence and voice. His vivid use of color and contrast elevates these subjects, setting them confidently within abstracted backgrounds that support their emotional resonance. Whether it’s the silent strength of a weathered fir or the fierce gaze of a wild creature, Langevin’s work seems to declare: “Here I am.”
Graeme Shaw, by contrast, paints entirely from memory, using intuition to compose scenes that evoke feeling over documentation. His emphasis on light—especially the warm, direct rays of the sun—imbues his landscapes with serenity and hope. From sunlight flickering across still waters to a sudden burst of light behind a mountain ridge, Shaw captures the quiet majesty of Canada's wilderness and the lasting impressions it leaves behind.
Though their methods differ, both artists share a reverence for nature and a commitment to capturing something more than what the eye sees. Their works invite us to consider the deeper emotional ties we have to the places that shape us.
Come experience “Spirit of Place: Memory, Light, and Presence”—a celebration of wild beauty, inner landscapes, and the quiet strength found in the natural world.
We look forward to welcoming you.
