Richard Cole
Based in Fort Langley, artist Richard Cole was born in Edmonton and is a graduate of the Alberta University of the Arts. His work, found in corporate and private collections around the world, explores the fleeting textures of nature and the unexpected beauty of land and water. From the sweeping prairies of Alberta to the tangled wilds of the Fraser River delta and the expansive oceanscapes of BC’s West Coast, his paintings capture a profound sense of place.
Alongside these vast landscapes, Richard also pays homage to the quiet moments—vivid poppies against faded grasses, the roughness of bark, the promise in a sky full of clouds, and the traces left by human presence. Recently, he has returned to figurative work with large-scale portraits, earning recognition as a finalist for the British Portrait Award and a participant in Canada’s Kingston Portrait Award. He is also the illustrator of two successful children’s books.
