Born in Victoria, Rick Bond grew up on James Island in the Strait of Georgia, where coastal life, fishing, clamming, and exploring sparked his earliest artistic inspiration. His first artwork, a childhood landscape of a fishing boat near his home, reflected a lifelong connection to nature. After moving to Vancouver, he later completed post-graduate studies in pharmacy at the University of British Columbia.
A pivotal visit to the Vancouver Art Gallery ignited his passion for painting. While working as a pharmacist, Bond pursued art seriously, eventually transitioning into a professional career after early gallery success. He refined his skills through formal training, including the Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the Federation of Canadian Artists, where he earned AFCA Signature Status in 1999.
Rick Bond’s artwork is known for its bold colour, loose brushwork, and expressive, contemporary style. Working primarily in acrylic, he builds compositions through layered shapes, vibrant palettes, and strong focal points, creating paintings that balance structure with spontaneity.
With over 40 years as a professional artist, Bond has exhibited across Canada, including in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Toronto. His work has been featured in corporate commissions for major brands and national campaigns, reinforcing his reputation in the Canadian art market. He is also an award-winning artist and active member of juried exhibitions.
Now based in the North Okanagan Valley, Rick Bond continues to evolve his practice, exploring colour, mood, and imaginative compositions inspired by global travel. His work reflects a deep connection to place, storytelling, and the ever-changing energy of life—making his paintings highly sought after by collectors of contemporary Canadian art.
