Glen Melville is a South African–Canadian painter known for his expressive approach to contemporary animal painting. His work explores movement, energy, and character through bold, intuitive mark-making and a strong sense of composition.
In this series of loose animal paintings, Melville moves away from photorealism into a more gestural and expressive style. Using scribbled, layered brushwork, he builds form through rhythm and movement rather than detail.
These works are often described as resembling a jazz solo in paint—improvised, energetic, and spontaneous, where each mark contributes to a sense of flow and emotional expression.
Melville’s approach captures the essence of animals rather than exact representation, allowing personality, motion, and instinct to come forward in the work.
Collectors are drawn to Glen Melville’s paintings for their originality, energy, and the balance between control and freedom within his mark-making process.
At White Rock Gallery, a curated selection of Glen Melville original animal paintings is available for acquisition. Please select the “Acquire” button on each artwork page or contact the gallery for availability.
