, The Bev Ellis collection at White Rock Gallery features striking, highly textured ceramic works by award-winning Canadian artist Bev Ellis, best known for her signature interpretations of birch bark in clay. Winner of the SSICA Ceramics Biennial People’s Choice Award and creator of large-scale installations including a major commission for Vancity, Ellis is widely recognized for her ability to transform natural textures into powerful sculptural forms.
Her work is deeply inspired by the forest floor and the quiet complexity of nature. Burned wood, peeling bark, moss, and organic surfaces are translated into layered ceramic sculptures that reflect both strength and fragility. The result is work that feels grounded in the natural world while remaining distinctly contemporary.
While Ellis is most recognized for her birch bark–inspired surfaces, her recent work expands into new explorations of tree forms and natural textures, continuing her study of imperfection, growth, and transformation in nature.

Ellis has exhibited widely across Canada, the United States, and internationally, and her work is held in private and corporate collections around the world.
