Elle Belz is a Toronto-based contemporary artist known for her fearless fusion of abstraction and realism. Her paintings reimagine traditional subjects through a bold, modern lens—where light moves freely across the canvas, colour pulses with energy, and layers of transparency and shadow create depth and emotional resonance.

Florals are central to Belz’s practice, serving as both subject and metaphor. Their movement mirrors human emotion, balancing fragility with strength, intimacy with scale. Each work invites a visceral connection, unfolding as a quiet dialogue between nature and the human spirit.

Born in the South of France and raised in a creative family, Belz was immersed in the arts from an early age. Her path took an unconventional turn through science, earning a Science degree with honours and a minor in Fine Arts from the University of Prince Edward Island. A childhood shaped by global travel further informed her visual language and sensitivity to form and culture.

After a 20-year hiatus, Belz returned to painting, bringing renewed freedom and intention to her practice. She is self-taught and carries a legacy of artistry, descending from notable Prussian women artists of the 18th and 19th centuries, including Julie de Villas and Adele Belz.

Her work has been featured in British House & Garden, Toronto Star, and West of the City Magazine, and exhibited in galleries across Canada.
