Artist Glen Melville was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 1959. After graduating from high school he served as a police officer for three years before making a 180-degree career change. Despite having no formal training, he established a career in advertising and graphic design until immigrating to Canada in 2009. He has exhibited in South Africa, and more recently in British Columbia. Winning the Show Designers Choice Award at the 2009 Sidney Fine Art Show was the perfect start to his new life in Canada. He has since won a Jurors Choice Award at the 2011 Sidney show, plus an honourable mention. To top it all off, in 2016 Glen won Best In Show at the Sidney Fine Art show.
I try to capture the grandeur of the evocative subjects that fascinate me.
Working in acrylic or oil, or a combination, I make use of dramatic lighting, colour, and composition to achieve the intriguing quality of the final work.
Subject matter and style are varied: a product of the quest to discover what lies around the next bend in the road. I strive for a depiction that resonates with the viewer, hopefully causing the heart to beat a little faster.
