In Agnes Lake, Graeme Shaw captures the striking alpine beauty of Lake Agnes, located near Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. Known for its crystal-clear water, rugged mountain surroundings, and breathtaking scenery, the lake has long inspired visitors with its quiet grandeur and vivid natural colour.
Unlike many of Shaw’s more interpretive works painted from memory, Agnes Lake was created using photographic references in order to preserve the natural accuracy and distinctive beauty of the location. Working in acrylic, Shaw embraced the immediacy and speed of the medium to capture the luminous colour, atmosphere, and detail of the mountain landscape.
Part of Shaw’s ongoing exploration of Western Canadian landscapes, this painting reflects both his technical versatility and deep appreciation for the natural world. Through layered brushwork and carefully balanced composition, Agnes Lake conveys the serene beauty and timeless appeal of one of the Rockies’ most beloved alpine lakes.
